Belarusian star expects Ukrainian opponent not to shake hands at French Open

Paris, France (AP) - Aryna Sabalenka has said she expects her Ukrainian opponent Marta Kostyuk not to shake hands with her when they meet in the semifinals of the French Open on Thursday.

The pair have been embroiled in a war of words since Kostyuk accused Sabalenka of supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Sabalenka has denied the allegations, but Kostyuk has said she will not shake hands with her if they meet on court.

Sabalenka said she is prepared for the snub and that she will not hold it against Kostyuk.

"I understand her position," Sabalenka said. "She's from Ukraine and she's very passionate about her country. I respect that."

The match between Sabalenka and Kostyuk is sure to be one of the most talked-about matches of the tournament. It will be the first time the two players have met since Kostyuk made her allegations against Sabalenka.
